Just Another Saturday in NYC

Yesterday Ryan and I met my fellow MPMS colleague Sarah Abby and her friend Laura. We had a few drinks in our favorite Bryant Park. It was so wonderful to see Sarah. She had all of her third graders, my student two years ago, write me letters. What a special surprise!

As we were saying goodbye there was a rush of people that walked into Bryant Park, we noticed they all were wearing ear phones. They surrounded the grass and one person was seated in the middle. They suddenly started rushing into the middle all at the same time, then started running around the man in the middle and then ran back to their spots surrounding the grass. They then ran into the middle again, held up pieces of paper with letters on them and started playing a human scrabble game, at least that’s what it looked like. There were at least 1000 people all doing the same thing at the same time. We were hoping it would be a Flash Mob performance, in some ways it was but they were wearing ear phones to tell them what to do. We’re still not exactly sure what it was but it was definitely something I’ve never seen before. . . only in New York.
