Governor's Island and Freeport

Ryan and I had a great weekend exploring the New York State. Saturday we took a free ferry to Governor's Island where we rented bikes, read our books in cute red chairs and hammocks and ate lunch. The island has many old and beautiful military housing and buildings. The views from the island are spectacular. From The Statue of Liberty to Staten Island to The Financial District to Brooklyn, you could see it all. It was a beautiful day, even a bit chilly but perfect for riding around to see the sites. Ryan and I both agreed that Governor's Island is our favorite place in Manhattan right now. Unfortunately it's only open through October. We'll definitely be bringing friends when they come to visit next summer.
Our evening consisted of reading on our roof deck, playing cards on our personal deck and going to dinner at a tiny Thai restaurant in the East Village. There were maybe 15 tables and was BYOB, food was tasty and fortunately wasn't too pricey. Gotta love that!

Sunday we decided to explore some of Long Island. Someone gave us a suggestion to go to Freeport's Nautical Mile where there are restaurants and bars along the boat docks as well as live bands playing at each of them. Fresh seafood and yummy drinks are served by all. We decided to do a bit of a restaurant crawl and get a little appetizer at each place that looked appealing to us. We had a great time exploring and really enjoyed Freeport.
This is a picture of the band (can't really tell)

Now it's back to the work week, I start work on Wednesday, I feel like I'm walking into this school a little on the blind side, I'm looking forward to meeting some of the people that I'll be working with and just hearing more about the school in general. Have a great week!!!

  1. Looks like Gov's Island is a nice reprieve from the city. Nice pics. Miss you both.
